Printer

Pair an iPad and a Star printer to hand out paper queue tickets.

The printer add-on turns a kiosk into a full deli-counter-style ticket dispenser: queuer taps the tablet, the printer prints a small paper ticket with their queue number and a QR code. They keep the ticket as their proof of place.

It’s the most accessible kiosk setup. Queuers who can’t or won’t use a phone get a tactile ticket they can hold onto.

  • An iPad (iOS only; Android tablets aren’t supported)
  • A Star Micronics receipt printer (specific model required; ask Flowby support if unsure which to buy)
  • The Flowby app from the App Store
  • USB cable rated for iPad (the right socket on the printer; the printer has multiple USB inputs)
  1. Install the Flowby app on the iPad from the App Store and sign in with your store’s username and password.

  2. Wire it up. Plug the printer into power, switch it on. Connect the printer’s iPad-compatible USB socket to the iPad with the cable.

  3. Open the kiosk. In the Flowby app, tap Kiosk (under the logo on the home screen). Pick the queue or group this kiosk should handle.

  4. Enable the printer. Tick the Use printer box. The app searches for a connected printer.

  5. Pair. When the printer appears in the search results, tap Connect. If it doesn’t appear on the first try, tap search again.

  6. Enter the kiosk. Tap Enter kiosk to launch the customer-facing screen.

The iPad is now ready. Queuers tap Take queue number on screen; the printer prints a ticket with the number and a QR code linking back to their queue position (so queuers who do have a phone can also follow along online).

  • Mount the iPad facing the queuer, with the printer just below or beside so the ticket comes out within easy reach.
  • Lock the iPad with Guided Access to stop curious queuers from navigating away.
  • Stock paper rolls. Out-of-paper is the most common kiosk failure. Keep a spare roll behind the counter.
