Move back in the queue
Let queuers swap places with the next person when they need a moment.
The Move back button (visible in the queuer’s queue view) lets a queuer trade places with the next digital queuer behind them. Useful when a queuer’s turn is approaching but they’re not ready: still on a phone call, getting something out of the car, finishing a chat with another queuer.
It’s a soft “delay me by one slot” rather than a way to leave and rejoin, and it’s not a “send me to the very back” button.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- Queuer taps Move back on their phone.
- The next digital queuer behind them advances one position; the queuer who tapped drops one.
- The advancing queuer gets a notification (“you’ve moved up one place”).
- The dropping queuer keeps their queue session. No lost place at the bottom of the queue.
A queuer can tap Move back multiple times if they need more time, swapping with the next digital queuer behind them each time. The button disappears when there’s no digital queuer behind them.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- Only works for digital queue numbers. A queuer with a digital number can’t pass someone with a manual queue number. Manual numbers are anchored in their position.
- Only swaps one place at a time. No “send me to the very back” option; if a queuer genuinely needs that, they should leave the queue and rejoin.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Why has the queuer received a new queue number?
Their number can change if someone ahead of them used Move back. That queuer voluntarily swapped places with the next digital queuer behind them, so people behind that swap can move up and get a new number. This is also how queuers handle the case where their turn is approaching but they’re not ready.
