Open, closing or closed queue

What each queue status means and how to use them.

A queue is always in one of three states:

StatusNew queuers can join?Existing queuers stay?Visible on status screen?
OpenYesYesYes
ClosingNoYesYes
ClosedNoNo (queue is emptied)No

The status appears (and changes) at the top of the queue view in admin, to the right of the queue name.

Open is the normal state. Queuers can join, you can serve them.

Closing is the right pre-shutdown state. Use it when you’re approaching closing time or end of staff shift: it freezes the line at its current size so you can serve out everyone already in queue without new arrivals piling on.

Closed is for outside opening hours or when the team behind that queue is unavailable. Anyone in line at the time of closing loses their place, so always step through Closing first if there are people in the queue.

Stores can configure automatic transitions tied to opening hours so you don’t need to remember to flip status manually. Ask Flowby support if you’d like that set up.
